Marken and Volendam
Duration: 4 hours     Price:Euro 265

Our tour starts in the village of Marken. In the 13th century a huge storm surge separated Marken from the mainland, and it wasn't until 1957 that a dike re-established its connection to the rest of Holland.

Marken is renowned for its traditional dress as well as for its tiny domestic interiors stuffed with artistic porcelain and other ornaments.

After a stop at a craft cheesery and clog-factory it's off to Volendam, the world-famous characteristic fishing-village. It too has its own traditional dress, beautifully finished and completed with, among other things, the famous Volendam red coral necklaces.

The local restaurants serve delicious fresh fish-courses, and it is highly recommended to take a stroll through the alleys behind the dike with their picturesque houses.
